The Honorable Jack B. Streepy passed away on July 30, 2024 due to complications from Alzheimers. He was born in Rockford, Illinois on February 27th, 1939 to Freeland Brown Streepy(deceased) and Viola Mae Wright(deceased). He is survived by a son, Matthew, from his marriage to Rebecca(Beckett) Daniel and by four daughters, Joey(Rich), Anne(Dan), Cathy, and Rie, and son, Steve, from his marriage to Carla O’Day. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Caden, Carly, Gabbi, Riley, Gen, Jack, Logan, Trevor, and Madison, and by his sister Jean and her children: Terri, Tracy and Todd.

Jack treated everyone he met with dignity and respect and always gave a warm, sincere greeting-whether chatting with a server or conferring with a fellow magistrate-when Jack asked, “Hello, how are you?” He genuinely wanted to know. He had a calm, peaceful demeanor yet he was also not afraid to stand up for an injustice. He believed in the law, loyalty and above all else, love.

Jack had a deep respect and appreciation for the law. His career included time as a law clerk, a legal aid, and a prosecutor, followed by 30 years serving as a United States Federal Magistrate for the United States District Court of the Northern District of Ohio. During his time on the bench he earned a reputation for his exceptional objectivity and attention to detail, and was known by his staff, colleagues, friends and family for his thoughtfulness, kindness and fairness.

Jack had a curiosity about the world and loved to travel. He was known for planning epic family road trips, specifically to explore national parks- from the California Redwood Forest, to Yellowstone, to Maine’s Acadia National Park. He enjoyed being the lead driver, with Beckett as his trusted navigator.

During his retirement, he wrote his memoir, ‘That’s Garbage’ and spent many hours mastering the art of sudoku with his dog by his side. He was obsessed with current events, and loved watching the news and reading the paper. A subscriber to the New York Times, The Economist, Scientific American and many other periodicals, knowledge seeking remained a constant throughout his life. He was truly the definition of a lifelong learner.

Jack B. Streepy was one in a million. He will be forever in our hearts. May he rest in peace.

The family will celebrate his life privately. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jack B. Streepy’s name to The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland or The Alzheimer’s Association.
