Brad Charnas, 75, of Rocky River, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026,
surrounded by family after a long battle with Cancer.
Brad was born on November 25th, 1950, in Cleveland, Ohio, during the “Blizzard of the
Century,” to Nicholas and Diamond Charnas. After graduating from Charles F Brush High
School in 1968 and The Ohio State University in 1973, Brad began his appraisal career with
what is now The Pickering Group. In 1980, he started Charnas Appraisal, focused primarily on
relocation appraising, which sustained him and his family until he retired in 2021.
During his career, he was recognized frequently for appraisal accuracy and professionalism,
which led to service on several appraisal advisory panels. This led to service as President of
Relocation and Consultants and then President of Worldwide ERC, both professional
organizations aligned with Relocation Appraising.
While his professional career gave him a great deal of satisfaction, his greatest pleasure came
from nurturing and uplifting those around him, especially his children and his family. Brad’s
hobbies centered around making things with his hands, whether restoring a 1953 MG roadster
or making wooden desks for grandsons.
Brad was dearly loved by his family and friends, and his passing will leave a lasting void. He will
be remembered for his intellect, wit, humor, remarkable mechanical abilities, and love and
caring for others.
Brad is survived by his wife, Paulette Moylan, son, Ian Charnas, daughter, Alexandra Charnas,
granddaughter, Kailie Charnas, stepson Scott (Kristen) Moylan, their children Chase and
Everett, stepdaughter Danielle (Mike) Carvey, Danielle’s children Alex Burgess and David
Burgess, brother Douglas Charnas (Marianne Chaconas), sister Elaine (James) Maier, sister
Laurel (Todd) Schiller, and loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Brad was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Diamond Charnas.
May his memory be eternal.
All services will be private

Praying for all of you as you mourn the loss of this very kind and caring man. May you find comfort in favorite memories.
The relocation profession was blessed to have both Brad and Paulette involved in the industry. Brad was the first appraiser to be elected President of Worldwide ERC. And I in particular was blessed to have him in that leadership position.

BC was a friend of me and my dad who helped him on 7th grade science project. We went on to be roommates in undergrad and lifelong friends. He introduced me to my wife of 50+ years. He gave me a lot of great advice. The best was after his cancer journey. He told me my job was to be happy.
My thoughts and prayers are with Paulette and the family. Brad was a very kind man, and I enjoyed working with him during his time on the Board with ERC. He had a very good stage presence and was willing to do some fun and crazy things for the attendees.

Gosh – what a charming and delightful man. I remember fondly some site seeing with Brad during an Exec committee meeting in Amsterdam. Paulette – please know the many lives he touched and the charm he embodied with everyone whose paths he crossed
I had the privilege of working with Brad for many years at ERC I learned from him not just about relocation appraising but life lessons on being a true leader and good person. Paulette, my heart goes out to you and your family. I am thinking of you—sending my prayers and remembering the good times at ERC meetings. Wishing peace and comfort during this difficult time.
Gosh – I don’t know how to sum Brad up in a comment. He was such a great friend, such a north star to me. I will miss his kindness; his ready wit and guidance; his often-expressed love for Paulette, his kids and family members; his clear and pragmatic approach to life; and his exceptional grace, courage, and optimism throughout his journey, especially these last few years. He made my life better – he made ME better. I will do my best to carry forward the “Bradisms” I have learned with others.
Knowing Brad for over 40 years as a friend and fellow appraiser, it would be easy to write a chapter of his professional accomplishments, as they are many. But Brad’s strength is his genuine love for his wife, Paulette, his family, and his friends. Always a forward thinker to help in any situation, it was easy for Brad to progress into leadership roles, which he did, as President of RAC and President of WERC. But friendships, loyalty and honesty were his priority. His smile and contagious laugh would ease any situation, as many will confirm. Without a doubt, his friendship made ordinary days extraordinary. Love and prayers are with the family.
Brad invited me to join RAC at an ERC conference way back in 1997. We are both Ohio appraisers from different ends of the state (Cleveland & Cincinnati). I’ve missed seeing him for several years. Yes, he was smart, giving, inviting, serious, and fun. Godspeed.
Brad approached what he did with excellence. His presence elevated any group he joined, bringing professionalism, commitment, and a spirit of service that strengthened both him and the organizations he served. His notable contributions to the appraisal profession—especially to RAC and WERC—will be long remembered.
Thanks Brad
I met Brad at a RAC conference in 1996. We hit it off immediately. Brad was a bit of a technocrat and had converted his appraisal office to digital a few years earlier. He helped me to do the same. (No more 35MM film, mail 3 copies of reports using FEDEX, etc.) I will always be grateful to Brad for bringing me and my office up to speed. Over the years, we had some back and forth about the Red Sox and Indians too. I will always have great memories of Brad and will miss him.
EPOW, my friend.
Please accept our deepest condolences. , and sending love and keeping you all in our heart.

Brad Charnas was one of the first members of RAC I met when I joined. I was always in awe of his knowledge, kindness and leadership skills. Paulette was just an added bonus. Paulette, you and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
