In Loving Memory
Kathleen Claire Fraylick (née Carroll)

Kathy was born on February 20, 1934, in Houston, Texas, to John Frederick Carroll and Dorothea Lucia Carroll (née Christiani). She had a younger brother, Arthur, who sadly passed away at just six months old. Kathy passed away on October 28, 2025.

At the age of eight, Kathy and her mother moved to Bell, California, and later to Indiana. She had a sheepdog named Mr. Tipps who was a faithful companion. Kathy attended Purdue University, where she joined a sorority and remained an active member for 40 years. It was there that she met her future husband, John Rogers Fraylick, on a blind date. They were married on January 31, 1955, and shared 60 years together.

John’s career brought them to Cleveland, Ohio, where he worked for Sohio, which later partnered with British Petroleum. Together, John and Kathy built a strong partnership rooted in love, family, and community. We sadly lost John on May 18, 2015.

John and Kathy were active with the American Field Service, hosting students from several countries who became part of their extended family. They served on the Board of the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center and were members of the Great Lakes Science Center, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Museum of Art and Musart Society, and the West Side Irish American Club. They enjoyed visiting the Cleveland Zoo, attending performances by the Cleveland Orchestra, and volunteering during elections. Kathy was also an avid bridge player who valued the friendships that came with the game.

John and Kathy loved to travel and saw much of the world together. Their journeys took them to Kenya, Botswana, Zimbabwe, China, New Zealand, Australia, Costa Rica, Singapore, Bali, Macao, Hong Kong, England, France, Germany, Prague, Maui, Scotland, Ireland, and Paris. Along the way, they were able to reconnect with several of their former AFS students. After John’s passing, Kathy continued her travels, visiting Switzerland on her own.

Kathy was the devoted mother of six children: Rachael Harrington (Brent, deceased), Rebecca Birch (Terence Salter), Matthew Fraylick (Cindy), Sarah Johnson (Tim Talbert), David Fraylick (Bonnie), and Daniel Fraylick. She was the grandmother of eleven: Paul Harrington (deceased), Scott Harrington (Kristina), Perry Fraylick (Nicole), Macy Timmerman (Sam), Keenan Fraylick, Landen Fraylick, Kiley Talbert, Tyler Talbert, Jacob Fraylick, Jeffrey Fraylick (Marissa), and Jared Fraylick. She was also the great-grandmother of five: Dana, Bella, and Alice Harrington, Rori Fraylick, and Baby Timmerman, expected in December.

Kathy will be remembered for her kindness, curiosity, and steady presence. She had a way of connecting with people and was genuinely interested in their stories. Her life reflected her love of family, learning, and the world around her. The many kind words and memories shared by friends and family are a testament to the lasting impact she had on those who knew her.

As one friend said, “If I could choose a mom, I would have picked her.”
