GARDNER, ANDREW W.

ANDREW W. GARDNER (Andy), 73 of Olmsted Falls, Ohio passed away from ALS on June 4, 2013 at his home. Memorial services will be held on June 11, 2013 at 7:00 pm at Olmsted Community Church. Burial will be at Hubbard Union Cemetery on June 14, 2013 at 2:30pm. Andrew was born in Etna, PA to Frank & Alma Gardner on August 20, 1939. A US Army veteran, he worked as a driver salesman for Frito-Lay for 39 years and earned the National Frio-Lay award for volunteer community service. He was active in the Teamsters Local 52 until his retirement in 2002. He served as Steward, Recording Secretary and Vice President. Andy was a Phys Ed teacher from 1967-72 at St. Casimir’s and was twice CYO Coach of the Year. While he was a member of the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities, he founded and served as president of a committee that designed and built the Mary Gardner Memorial Playground for multi-handicapped children. He was active with his two sons in Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Olmsted Community Church and served on the board of trustees for 14 years. Andy is survived by his wife of 46 years Janet (Price), his sons, John C. (Lisa) and Richard A., his siblings Shirley Lang, Karen Lyn and Frank Gardner, a brother-in-law Richard A. (Judy) Price, 3 grandchildren, Ryan, Josh and Hayley and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Mary Louise Gardner. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Autism Speaks and Hospice of the Western Reserve.
