John A Sandor, age 79, of Rocky River OH passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025.
Beloved husband for 29 years to Marlene (née Jencson) , brother to David (Cathy),  Carol Petty (Tom) and Susan Ikeler (Ed) , stepfather to Michelle, Tracy and Krista Reveron and Papa to Nathan Roldan.
He was pre deceased by his parents, Albert and Mary Alice ( née Strauser).

John was a 1964  graduate of Avon Lake high school.   For several years John  and his brother, Dave, owned and operated Treasure Cove, a convenience store on Lake  Rd in Rocky River.  Then John left to become an independent contractor for the H& H Pretzel company, delivering Snyder potato chips/snack foods to many businesses.     John met his wife, Marlene when they both ushered (redcoats) at Playhouse Square.  Their love of travel took them to all countries in Europe, and also Turkey, Morocco and Australia.    John found his calling when he worked for Globus and Cosmos as a tour director.    He was happiest when he led foreign travelers on a 19-day cross country itinerary.    He never tired of sharing the national parks, the monuments, the quirky cities, the wildlife out west.  He could recite facts detailing the cities and sights they would see; he  was known as a walking encyclopedia.  His travelers were mainly from Australia, the U.K. and new Zealand.    Oh, the stories he could tell!    Later he worked for Group Leaders of America, out of Salem OH where he coordinated  meetings and seminars promoting group travel throughout the United States.     One year the company held 85 meetings and John assisted at each one.   These meetings were held at venues such as the Reagan presidential library, the Nixon library, a restaurant at Navy Pier In Chicago,  Arrowhead stadium in Kansas City, and West Point academy to name a few.   He worked the audio visual and all the IT (all of it self taught) at these conferences.

A wordsmith and avid reader, John would complete two crossword puzzles from the newspapers each morning.   Always wanting to learn, he had a plan to read a biography on every U.S. president.     He was a lifelong fan of Cleveland Indians baseball.    He volunteered for Meals on Wheels.   He was involved in greyhound adoption and he and Marlene always owned two at a time.     Each month he looked forward to a  luncheon with fellow graduates of Avon Lake high school from the 1960’s decade.  Being a member of the Cadillac Allante / XLR club was a big part of John’s life.  He treasured those friendships.

We owe a debt of gratitude to the cardiac units and the various surgeons at the Cleveland clinic for the care John received over the last three years.   He was especially grateful to Drs Maroo (both of them) and also to gastro surgeon Dr Tabbaa.
A service/ memorial will take place at a later date.
