Sumiko was born and raised in Kyoto Japan. She came to the US in 1962 after marrying, becoming a proud citizen in 1972. She worked for many years and retired from Rockwell Automation, earning many achievements there. She was very active in retirement with a large circle of friends and heavily involved with the Solon Senior Center. She spent the last few years enjoying her life at Haven Assisted Living Unit.

She is survived by her niece, Mikako Tamura (Takayuki) and her great nephew, YoTamura. She is reunited with her son Dale Hopkins II (Lou LaMarca), her parents and her siblings.

Sumiko truly was loved by all. She was a kind, spirited and thoughtful person who had a wicked sense of humor and was often mischievous. Sometimes naughty. Everyone smiled and laughed when in her company.

She was very proud of her Japanese heritage. She loved music, tennis, golf, pizza and a Korean drama called Winter Sonata. Most of all she loved her son, family and friends. She climbed to the top of Mount Fuji, sang live on local radio broadcasts, was an honorary state legislator for a day, and had many other interesting and creative life experiences.

Per her wishes, there will be no funeral nor memorial service. Her remains will be buried in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chesterland. For those who want to recognize her passing in a more formal way, please consider donating to Western Reserve Hospice who took great care of her in her home for two years and at one of their facilities this past week or to Haven ALU in Lakewood which was her home for the last several years and made her happy.
