July 18, 1956 – June 21, 2025
Douglas Keith Albers, age 68, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, after a short illness, in Lakewood, Ohio, surrounded by his wife and children.
Born at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, and raised in Rocky River, Ohio, Doug was a proud graduate of Rocky River High School. He went on to earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Baldwin Wallace University, where he was a devoted member of Alpha Tau Omega (ATO). Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Donald S. Albers and Shirley A. Albers. He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly Lyth-Albers; his children, Lauren (Zane) Blackledge and Bryan (Lauran) Albers; his siblings, Scott (Susan) Albers and Susan C. Merk (Scott); his grandchildren, Xavier and Adriana; along with his nieces, nephews, and his beloved cat, Buddy.
Known for his love of technology and all things gadget-related, Doug was a ham radio enthusiast with the call sign W8DKA. He also had a lifelong love of the water, sparked by childhood summers in Cape Cod. Whether boating, enjoying the rooftop at the Berkshire overlooking Cleveland and Lake Erie, or spending time by the backyard fire pit with friends, Doug was most at peace near the water.
Though his children lived far away, he never let distance weaken their bond — staying close through years of phone calls filled with tech support, laughter, and love.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Doug was the kind of person who never met a stranger — always ready with a story, a joke, or a helping hand.
“This is W8DKA, clear.”
Cleveland Burial & Cremation Co, Malloy & Esposito. is caring for Doug’s arrangements. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date for close friends and family.
