Cain, Mary Esther (Laub) passed away peacefully at age 93 at the Lutheran Home in Westlake, Ohio on May 16th, 2025. Born November 3, 1931 in Toledo Ohio to Esther and Karl Laub. Preceded in death by parents, husband Walter Chapman Cain, sister Joanne and Brother-in-law Harry Thieman.
Mary attended the University of Toledo majoring in Biology
After working as a medical assistant she met and married her husband of 62 years Walter Cain. They moved to Bay Village Ohio where they raised 3 sons and were active in their community for over 70 years.
She is survived by sons Thomas Cain of Ocracoke Island, NC; David Cain (Becky) of Waynesville Ohio; and Paul Cain (Connie)of Cedarville, Ohio . Grandchildren Shauna Boggs (Rodney), Jamie Cain, Lisa Neuenschwander (Jared), Casey Shaw (Emily), and Adam Cain . Along with 9 great-grandchildren and niece Linda Gallager and nephew Gary Thieman.
Mary and family were long time members of Bay Presbyterian Church and she enjoyed every aspect of being a wife and mother – mastering skills at sewing, cooking, and being a productive member of the community. In later years she spent most of her time volunteering at St. John Westshore hospital, square-dancing, playing bridge, and most importantly spending quality time with her grandchildren.
Her family will never forget the countless gatherings that included her wonderful meals and famous homemade applesauce and chocolate chip cookies. She instilled valuable life lessons to all her family that included hard work, earning one’s own way, and living a Christian life.
A graveside service will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the National Alzheimer’s Society.
