Judy S. Drotleff, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024. She was 78 years old.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio on December 1, 1945, Judy was the daughter of the late Jack and Katherine Slagle. She graduated from Canfield High School in 1964 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Northwestern University in 1968.

Judy worked as a newspaper writer and editor for nearly 20 years, first at The Youngstown Vindicator and later at The Cleveland Press until a few weeks before it ceased publication. She continued freelance writing with program notes for The West Shore Chorale as well as composing with her husband, including an anniversary musical for the youth choirs at Rocky River United Methodist Church.

Outside of work, Judy loved reading and had an extensive library specializing in Christmas books and children’s books. An avid traveler, she enjoyed multiple tours of Europe including two transatlantic voyages on ocean liners, a photo safari in East Africa, and visited most of the major US cities with her favorite being New York City. Judy loved to sing and sang in choirs for most of her life.

Judy is survived by her devoted husband of 49 years, John; her son, Stefan and daughter-in-law, Misty; her grandson Max; and a host of other dear relatives and friends. She will be remembered for her sharp wit, attention to detail, outstanding cooking, and homemade Christmas cards.

A private service for Judy will be held for family members. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to:
