Susan Ann Kuczin (Murphy) a devoted lifelong teacher, nurse, loving mother and cherished friend; passed away May 30, 2026 surrounded by family. Born on December 6, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, Susan’s compassionate spirit shone brightly throughout her life, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.

A caretaker at heart, Susan dedicated her life to helping others. Her selflessness and generosity were defining traits, she constantly put the needs of others before her own, embodying an honest and open demeanor that drew people near. Those who worked along her in nursing witnessed her unwavering commitment and her patients felt the warm embrace of her touch. Susan took pride in being a teacher and a nurse; her profession was more than a career–it was a calling.

Susan was raised in an Irish Catholic family and used her strong faith in the Lord to serve God. She attended the esteemed Saint John’s College on scholarship in Cleveland and started her career as an elementary school teacher. Later in life, she attended the renowned Central School of Nursing in Cleveland on scholarship from the Freemasons of Cleveland-Masonic Lodge and continued doing the Lord’s work compassionately healing people for 42 years serving many of them at Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital and Slovene Home for the Aged.

Outside of her nursing responsibilities, Susan’s interests were as vibrant as her personality. She found joy in crafts, baking, reading, music, yoga, dancing, taking care of the local animals and of course a casino trip. She often shared her beautiful craft creations with friends and family. She added a personal touch to everything she did, living everyday with purpose.

Her most profound pride were her children: Carla Kuczin, Beth Kuczin, Abby Kuczin (deceased). Michele (Frank) Guccion, Mark Kuczin (Barb (deceased), Noelle (John) Kuczin-Walters. Grandchildren: Vincent Guccion, Mitchell (Amanda) Guccion, Ryan (Alex) Day, John Bruketa, Justin Bruketa, Morgan (Kelly) Frazier, Galen (Ella) Frazier, Arianna Frkonja-Kuczin. Susan Kuczin completed the difficult task of raising six children on a limited, single woman’s income. As such, one of Susan’s strongest legacies is influencing young people, especially young women, to pursue education, careers, and independence. Her children have done well with medical, military service and technical careers, as have many other young people who were influenced by her determination and effort. This was a huge accomplishment for a woman born in 1941
