Harold Daniel Whitely, Jr., “Dan” as he was referred to by family and friends, age 76, passed away on September 15, 2023. Dan was born in Beckley, WV to Harold and Gladys Whitely on June 29, 1947 and was an only child. A gift of his and favorite pastime was caring for animals, both domestic and wild. He loved to feed wild animals and they often became regulars at his porch for treats. He was an avid fisherman and hunter in his younger years and had a passion for gardening throughout his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his parents and both his father and mother-in-law, Dick and Bernice Zimmer. He is survived by his wife and the love of his life for the last 46 years, Sharyn, children James Todd Whitely, Karen Whitely Cunningham, and Lesa Whitely Rizzo, along with his stepdaughters Nicole (Tony) Calabrese and Michelle (Mark) Wamsley. He has twelve grandchildren including Marissa (Blaine), Jessica (Troy), James Derek, Rachael, Alexis, Logan, Chance, Ashton, Ashley, Antonio, Ava, and Megan. He also has seven great grandchildren (Lyla, Lily, Ella, Trent, Trevor, Tucker, and Kora Lynn).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Dan’s battle with dementia. He is being cremated and his family will spread his ashes and share a private celebration of his life at a later date.
