Anne E. Whan, beloved mother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, at the age of 74.

Born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Shirley Whan; her brother, Bill Whan; and her husband, Gary Chaffin. She is survived by her brother, Peter (Lucy) Whan; her daughters, Eryn (Douglas) Arnold and Samantha Boring; and her first husband, Fred Boring.

A graduate of Ohio University with a degree in English and General Studies, Anne dedicated her career to teaching high school English and mythology. She inspired generations of students with her love of literature, learning, and kindness.

Anne was known for her warmth, humor, loyalty, and gift for storytelling. She loved musicals, dance, reading, writing, embroidery, and playing the Spanish guitar. She also enjoyed card games, especially Euchre and spades, and cherished sharing them with family and friends.

A passionate supporter of causes she believed in, Anne generously contributed her time and resources to organizations including the ACLU, NPR, and animal welfare groups. Her compassion extended to both people and animals, especially cats.

Despite facing dementia in her later years, Anne remained a source of strength, love, and inspiration. She will be remembered for her kindness, resilience, and the joy she brought to those around her.

Anne’s legacy of love, laughter, learning, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Come share memories and celebrate Anne’s life on Saturday, August 15, 2026, between noon and 4 p.m. at Infirmary Mound Park in Granville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a charity of your choice in Anne’s memory.
