GIBBS, ARLEEN Arleen Gibbs, Musician and Teacher. After 36 years of declining health, Arleen Smith Gibbs died February 6, 2015 in Westlake, OH. Born in Cleveland Heights, OH she began taking piano lessons when she was six years old. By the time she was in her teens, she was performing at Conventions and teaching piano to children in her neighborhood. Upon graduation from high school, she received a Piano Scholarship to attend Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. After having her children, she attended Baldwin Wallace College Conservatory of Music to continue study in Vocal Music and Organ and earned a degree in Organ Performance and Sacred Music. As a Church Organist, she played in many churches in the area. During her teaching career of fifty years, her students won numerous awards in Regional and National Piano competitions. She taught private lessons at her Westlake studio and at Baldwin Wallace College. She was a Nationally Certified Member of The Music Teachers National Association, served in various offices of The Cleveland Piano Teachers Club, The Ohio Music Teachers Association, National Piano Teachers Guild, American Guild of Organists and the Fortnightly Musical Club. GALLAGHER, RICHARD RICHARD THOMAS GALLAGHER, 72, of Oberlin, passed away Friday January30, after a long illness. Richard was born March 30,1942 and grew up in Sheffield Lake, Ohio. He graduated from St Mary’s High School in 1960 and University of Detroit in 1966 with a degree in Architecture. Richard served in the Peace Corps building schools in Somalia and Peru for 6 years. After enjoying some traveling, he settled in Hawaii (Maui and Oahu) where he lived for 20 years working in home design and carpentry. In 1994 he moved back to Ohio and settled in Oberlin where he worked as an architect and served as a member of the Oberlin Design Review board. Richard was a talented architect and accomplished visual artist (member FAVA). Richard is survived by his mother Bernadette Gallagher, wife Gail Lynn, step-daughter Christina Dixon, (David), and grandsons David and Dylan of California; brother Michael Gallagher (Margie) of Wooster, sister Mary Bill (Gary) of Loraine. He was preceded in death by his father Sylvester Gallagher and brother James Gallagher. No formal services will be held. HEINKE, LOWELL Lowell Lock Heinke, 81, was a prominent patent attorney based in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a founding partner of Watts, Hoffman, Fisher and Heinke. Some of his most notable work included the licensing and patenting of the original liquid crystal technology developed at Kent State University. Lowell was valedictorian of his class of 1950 at Coshocton High School. He was a multi-sport varsity athlete. As a standout player on the varsity football squad, he was offered several athletic scholarships and was even considered for the Browns training camp. He ultimately attended Case Institute of Technology on an academic scholarship and graduated cum laude in 1954. He was a loyal member of the SAE fraternity. Lowell subsequently acquired a law degree from George Washington University, while working as a patent examiner for the U.S. Patent Office and as a prosecutor for the U.S. Navy. In 1959, he returned with his young family to Cleveland as an associate patent attorney in the intellectual property law firm of Ely, Pearne and Gordon.
