SHUMWAY, JULIA

Julia Margaret Shumway, 64, of Westlake, Ohio passed away Saturday, December 21, 2013 after a three-year battle with lung cancer. Julia was born to the late Rev. Archibald Dixon and Roona Rollit, February 19, 1949 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Julia was a National Merit Finalist and went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Denison University in 1970. Julia married John Shumway in 1972, they settled in Columbus, Ohio and later moved to Westlake, Ohio. Julia is survived by her husband John; her three children Nathan, Thomas, and Margot; and her sister Sheila Tetler. She is also survived by her three cherished grandchildren: Adam, Jack and Luke. Julia began her career as an educator with developmentally challenged adults, and she later taught Graphic Arts at Cuyahoga Community College. She carried her enthusiasm for education into the private sector at Ernst and Young, Intellinex, and ACS where she managed teams of instructional designers. Most recently she served as the eLearning Manager at The Cleveland Clinic Education Institute. Julia was a voracious reader and enjoyed watercolor painting, jewelry-making, knitting and playing the piano. Memorial Service 1 p.m. Saturday, January 18, St. Peter Episcopal Church, 18001 Detroit Road, Lakewood, Ohio.
