Dr. Manuel Valera, age 89, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Alice. Manuel is survived by his siblings Melvin, Huascar, Cecilia, Leda and Maricela Valera, children Christine Weiss and Michael Valera, grandchildren Anna and Sophia Weiss and Alec, Gabriel and Alicia Valera, and many nieces and nephews.

Manuel earned a medical degree from the University of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic in 1960. He then completed a medical internship at Regina General Hospital in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada where he met his wife Alice, a residency in internal medicine at The Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a fellowship in internal medicine followed by a fellowship in peripheral vascular disease at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Manuel built a long and respected career as an internist in Lakewood, Ohio eventually joining the Cleveland Clinic’s Lakewood practice in 1996 where he worked until he retired in 2003.

In his spare time, he was an avid golfer and longtime member of Westwood Country Club and The Clifton Club, a Cleveland sports fan, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
