Hedwig Maria Szekely (née Wiesler) passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, surrounded by her cherished photographs, beloved books and loving family.

Hedy was born on March 13, 1927, to Isabella and Dr. Fritz Wiesler in Graz, Austria. She spent her childhood in Graz, where her father practiced medicine and owned a hospital. During World War II, her family lost the hospital and endured significant hardship.

At the age of 18, Hedy married her first husband, Dr. Charles Wimmer. Following the birth of their first son, Charles, the family emigrated to the United States in search of greater opportunities and a brighter future. After the birth of their second son, Christopher, Hedy later married Imre Szekely. Together they made their home in Lakewood, Ohio, where they welcomed their son, Emery. 

Hedy enjoyed a successful career as a licensed beautician, specializing in skincare and facial treatments. In her later years, she discovered a passion for ballroom dancing, earning countless awards and competition titles. She eventually settled in Avon, Ohio, where she found joy in nature walks, swimming and tending to her beautiful garden.

Above all else, Hedy treasured her family. Her greatest happiness came from being a devoted mother to her three sons and a loving grandmother to her two grandchildren, Cassandra and Alexander. She delighted in preparing homemade family meals from scratch and bringing loved ones together around the table. Whether through a visit, a phone call or a handwritten letter, spending time with family and friends was the greatest blessing of her life and a source of strength throughout the years.

Hedy is lovingly remembered by her sons, Charles Wimmer (Beverly), Christopher Wimmer (Jill), and Emery Szekely (Cynthia); her grandchildren, Cassandra Szekely and Alexander Szekely (Alexandria); and all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the North Ridgeville Community Care Food Distribution Center, 34015 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, OH 44039, in Hedy’s memory.

There will be a celebration of life in Hedy’s honor that will be announced at a later date.
