BAILEY, MACK "Big Mack" MACK “Big Mack” LEROY BAILEY, after a courageous battle with cancer, Mack passed away at the age of 68 surrounded by his wife, Cheryl, his daughter Jen and his grandson Charles. He accepted his illness graciously and honorably, until his strength ran out. Mack will be mourned and missed greatly by his family and friends. These include his wife, Cheryl, loving step-parents, Ophelia and the late Diamond Giles, his children, Charles, Juan (Nancy), Pam (PeeWee), Nichelle (Alfred), Dan (Sybil) and Jen, his 6 siblings, Diane, Beverly, Michael, Shirley, David and Nicole, along with many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Mack was preceded in death by his parents, Iris and Mack. We wish to thank all those at the Hospice of The Western Reserve Ames Family Hospice House who attended to Mack, as they did so with compassion and love. BARNEY, CAROLINE "KATY" CAROLINE “KATY” BARNEY (nee Grund), age 88 passed away in the loving embrace of her family, on July 9, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late William R. Barney, Jr., and the late Charles Dunklee Newcomer, and the devoted mother of David F. Newcomer (Vivien), Caroline D. Newcomer, and Charles C. Newcomer (Teresa). She was the loving grandmother of Dan Morgan Humphrey (Kristy), David Christian Humphrey (Marilyn), Hilary N. Spear (Patrick), and Melissa N. LaFollette (Dustin), great-grandmother of 7++, and aunt of Henry F. Grund, Jr. (Lorraine), the late Lisa A. Grund, Betsy Grund Vitetta (Guy), and Mary Ellen Adams (Kevin). Mrs. Barney was an alumna of Laurel School, past president of the Women’s Centennial Commission, and a long time staff member and Chalice Minister at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 1:00pm, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 2747 Fairmount Blvd., Cleveland Heights, OH 44106. Sweeney, Carol CAROL FRANCES SWEENEY of Asheville, NC, a free spirit in life, and now forever more, died suddenly on July 8, 2013 in Chesterland, Ohio. Born on April 28, 1961 to Peg Borland of Asheville, NC and the late Martin L. Sweeney of Cleveland, Ohio. Carol was raised in Avon Lake, and graduated from Avon Lake High School in 1979. She served as a Tactical Aircraft Mechanic in the United States Air Force and later became a Registered Nurse working in the Washington, DC area. She leaves behind her beloved children: Bryan Pelham of Coeur d'Alene, ID; Andrew Sweeney of Salt Lake City, UT; Clair Sweeney of Berryville, VA; and Neil Sweeney-Haney of Myersville, MD. She is also survived by her siblings: Jeanne Reavey (Patrick) of Frederick, MD; Madeleine Jones (Bob) of Urbana, MD; Kevin Sweeney (Irene) of Gainesville, GA; Michael Sweeney of Frederick, MD; and Kathleen Savitz (James) of Gaithersburg, MD. GILL, KENNETH KENNETH GILL, 92, died on June 26. He was born on Dec. 11, 1920 in Jackson, Michigan. He is survived by his wife, Alberta, children Susan, Larry, and Amy, grandchildren Matthew and Mandy, and great grandchildren Cal and Lucy. A WWII Navy veteran and proud graduate of the University of Michigan, he worked as a chemist for the BF Goodrich Research Center. He embraced life and enjoyed many hobbies including home renovation, bee keeping, wine making, gardening, archery, ham radio, and gem polishing. He enjoyed numerous adventurous canoe trips and bike rides with his 2 younger brothers and traveled the world with his wife. He was an active member of Olmsted Community Church and a member of many civic organizations. He was former president and member of the Olmsted Falls Board of Education for 20 years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Olmsted Community Church, 7853 Main Street, Olmsted Falls, Ohio 44138. KELLY, NANCY NANCY KELLY,83, of Westlake, passed away on June 23, 2013 peacefully in her sleep. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Kelly and a son Peter Schmidt. She is survived by her son Michael Schmidt (Sharon) of Nevada City, CA., sister Judy Burns of Morton Grove, IL., and Donnie (Nancy) of Parker, CO. Surviving grandchildren include Alison, Ann, Jenny, and David. She also had great-grandchildren Channing and Jack, numerous nieces and nephews as well as dear friends Joan Foley of Glenview, IL., and Kathy Hanna of Cleveland. Nancy was born Nancy Lou Boodel in Chicago, IL in 1930. She and her family moved to Crystal Lake, IL, where she attended Crystal Lake High School before the family moved to Evanston, IL, in 1945. Nancy graduated in 1948 from Evanston Township High School. In 1961, she moved to Cleveland with her husband and two children. Nancy began a 25-year career at The Cleveland Plain Dealer where she was the first woman to become Supervisor of the Call Center and she finished her career as Special Promotions Supervisor.
